Cool Contrasts
Some days I have the urge to look nice even when I have nothing to look nice for. The first Saturday of my spring break was one of those days, and I loved the styled outfit so much I decided to snap some pictures and write a blog post all about the juxtaposed look. I wanted to make all of the pieces of this look fit together, even though they all had a bit of a different style. I couldn't be happier with the results.
I woke up with some nice frizzy hair, so this entire look was centered around my brown rimmed hat. I like this hat because of its versatility. It can be worn in the fall and winter because of the dark color, but taken into spring and summer with the lighter texture of the hat. Its perfect for bad hair days, and because of our no hat school dress code, its always fun when I can actually wear a hat.
I started off just wearing this white, semi cropped top, but quickly realized how cold I was going to be. I wanted to bring a feminine touch to the hat, but still keep the outfit casual. The white color is great for spring time, and the higher lace detailed neckline creates the perfect statement. You can't actually see it, but this top has flared sleeves that are also lacy. I would wear this top without the jacket, with shorts and the hat in the summer time for another cute outfit.
Like we have discussed before, the seasons don't mean much here in the Midwest, so just because it was "spring break," certainly did not mean it was spring weather. It was 40 degrees and windy, so I grabbed this abstract camo jacket. This ties in well with the neutral color of the hat and brings structure to the top. I really liked the still relaxed fit of the jacket, and how it allowed the top to coordinate well.
Although you can't see it well, I paired a light pink bralette under the white top, and this acted as the inspiration for my jewelry. I wanted to pull the slightest bit of pink out of the outfit to add another spring and feminine touch. The distressed metal creates the perfect tie back into the neutral/boho look of the other pieces. I also had bright pink nails that tied in to the jewelry and the bralette.
Lastly, my jeans and my boots were kept really simple. I have several pairs of these jeans and you have seen them in previous posts. This pair is high-waisted and they work well with the cropped style of the top. The shoes pull the brown color from the hat and from the jacket. These were a warmer alternative to sandals, but the leather look of them allows them to be spring appropriate.
Next time a "Sprinter" day comes upon us, I'm going to keep the concept of this look in mind. Creating looks that are both weather and season appropriate can be tough, but if you can find just a couple of touches that bring out the looks of the season, the feel of the outfit can totally change. I do have to say I'm so ready for warm weather and summer outfits, but until then, keep these styling tips in mind.
